The BlkRoom is a Chicago-based organization and co-creation studio that facilitates opportunities for BIPOC artists and creatives across the city.
“The.BlkRoom stands as a beacon for artists and musicians seeking a supportive community. Its commitment to providing a safe space for underrepresented voices resonates deeply with our mission. By joining forces, we're not just sharing a space; we're nurturing a culture of inclusivity, creativity, and empowerment”
Founded in September 2021 as a co-creation space, TBR operated as a member-based music studio, built with the intention of providing a safe, accessible, and high-quality working environment for Black and Brown artists and musicians in Chicago.
After outgrowing our original space, we transitioned to our new space in 2023 which has allowed us to expand our programming and membership. Fall 2024 will mark a year in our new home and we are excited for the future of TBR as we continue to cultivate resources for the Chicago artist community and sustain our mission.
Since The.BlkRoom's inception, Camila and Senite have worked to enhance its success, drawing on their experiences as emerging creatives. Their efforts focus on bridging the gap between opportunity and achievement for Chicago's artistic community, evolving from a nurturing space into a hub for workshops, events, performances, and resources for artists to thrive.
“The.BlkRoom, Its initiatives and what they stand for in the city is very important for Black Artists…… Little by little if we have more communities like this it will overall contribute to the larger goal of liberation, and being free to express art.”
