SUBlvl's Artist Talk Series featuring Azuku and Ponce
As an extension of our Community Zine Archive: RCHVL, we are hosting a series of artist talks to spotlight each artist and facilitate conversations about their work and their contribution to our ever-growing community zine archive. Each artist talk event is programmed by the artist and a true reflection of their personal creative practices. We encourage everyone to engage fully in the conversations and activites and to support local, independant artist of color as they delve deeper into the creative industry.
Based in Chicago, Daniel Ponce (@proofofponce) is an artist and designer who channels his focus into storytelling through playful imagery. Drawing from his upbringing and community experiences, Ponce's work reflects the vibrancy of his cultural background, offering an introspective perspective on the hopeful future he envisions. Embedded in the city's art scene, he remains committed to shining a light on the evolving community that inspires his narrative-driven art.
Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Trevon Coffee aka Azuku (@madebyazuku) is a wonderous artist who enjoys bringing his ideas to life through painting, digital art, original sketches, and screenprinting. While focusing on having a 1/1 art style, he brings that same focus to the clothes he designs for his brand Azuku™. He’ll be showcasing pieces from previous and current collections with hints of new upcoming collections as well.
Market Day, hosted by Azuku and Ponce, offers communities a chance to connect and celebrate local brands and artists. Centered around the theme of 'Worldview,' Azuku and Ponce are bringing together vendors from different walks of life to celebrate and uplift each individual's unique offerings. Join us in supporting these artists and designers while discovering goods to enhance your summer! Market Day will feature Proof Studios, Azuku™, güdPPL Fashion House, Congruent Space, Jem Tools, Jhanee Inx, and Glo Gems. There will be live screen printing for those that bring in garments, and want to purchase pieces directly from Azuku himself along with a collection of Azuku’s first set of prints ever.
